Go East!

There's been a while I've been planning to head to east Europe to Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. Why? Well, I friend made me the same question a few week ago and my immediate answer was: I haven't been there yet! This is enough of a reason to get to cross a country border.

Leaving from Munich main train station a few minutes. Totally 6 hours journey till Bratislava and changing train once in Vienna.
Well train is about to leave.
More about Bratislava in the next posts.

Cheers! To a new city, new country and new discoveries!

Floating along the Isar river

What to do during the hottest summer days in Munich? Any idea?

Let me tell you: gather some friends, grab some beers, a rubber dinghy and take the tram S7 down south from Munich till Icking.

Arriving there get into the dinghy boat, jump into the water and enjoy the river flow all the way long to Munich.

The ride of about 20 km till the Flaucher beach in south of Munich can take till 10 hours....10 hours of pure fun!

This is going to be an unique experience. The awesome weather, the nature, friends. Just fantastic!
Floating all the way till the last stop in the Flaucher in Munich with river speed can take a few hours.
Along the way one pass a few damns...
...the jumping stone...
...and the beautiful forest along the river.
Lots of people are doing the same tour during the hot days. Good mood, cold beers and nice conversation is an obligatory part of it. Oh! If one is well prepared, barbecuing at the river side is also an option.
One will never forget such experience. Thank so much to my dear conejas Angie and Tfunny for the invitation.

Peeps grab the pump and have fun!!
Cheers everyone!

Munich is always some shots worthy

Some new great shots resulted from my last photographic attempts in Munich.

These places are among my favourite spots in the Bavarian capital, where I've been living for more than one year. Munich is just a beautiful, modern and welcoming town.
The research and innovation center
(Forschungs- und Innovationszentrum) of BMW in Munich.
The Sendling gate (Sendlinger Tor) is THE meeting point for party goers. It's kinda the gate to the Glockenbach square, which is the area preferred by they gay community in Munich. If one wants to find bars, clubs, restaurants, shops and a lot of fun easily in Munich, this is the place.

The Leopold street (Leopoldstraße) is loved by every single visitor in Munich because of the highest concentration of historical, as well as, classical and modern architecture along this boulevard. Starting from the Odeon square (Odeonplatz) with the Residence Palace (Residenzschloss), passin through the building of the Ludwig-Maximilian University, the St. Louis (Ludwigskirche) till the Münchner Freiheit, with its impressive modern design.

The Nymphenburg Palace is situated a bit afar from the down town but ease to reach with the local public transportation or, if one prefer to rent a bike, cycling. Its garden complex is definitely worth visiting.

The spring fair (Frühlingsfest) in March on the Theresienwiese is a pre-taste for the Oktoberfest, which takes place on the very same place in September/Oktober.

During some of my exploratory cycling hours through Munich I took this shot not far from the central train station. Really like it!

For those, who dont know yet, the plaster cast museum for classical sculpture (Museum für Abgüsse klassiche Bildwerke) is just my favourite place in this town. Such a wonderful place. Previously I dedicated a complete post to it. Check it out here.
Once in a while I'm returning there for some inspiring moments.

I don't remember how many times I've being photographing the King's square (Königsplatz) anymore. Love this place as well. I always bring my friends and visitors to this place. A visit to the Glyptothek and to the Antike Sammlung with their Greek and Roman classic exhibits is a must for those coming to Munich.

Munich through my new lenses

My best occupation during my free time in Munich is to go my bicycle through the town and take some pictures. With this Hipstamatic app on my phone I can take amazing shots easily. Putting a little bit of imagination, some feeling and my new lenses I got great ones during the last few days.

Karls Platz (Stachus).
Münchner Freiheit.
Landesgericht (State Court).
The best view a I had during the last two days. Actually the only one. Nice indeed!

Plaster cast goes classic in Munich

No! It’s not the Louvre. One can see Nike from Samothrake here though!

The words simplicity, authenticity and beauty describe the Museum of plaster cast of classical sculptures the best. It belongs to the chair of Classical Archeology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. If a trip to the Louvre in Paris or to the Uffizi in Florence is to hard to manage, this is the place to go.
Entrance at the Katarina-von-Bora-Straße, 10, Munich.

Hundreds of plaster casts of the most famous classical Roman and Greek sculptures are distributed in the two blocks of the building in the Katarina-von-Bora-Straße, 10 in Munich.

The exposition is nicely organized in the foyers, along the corridors and between the offices on the basement and in the further 2 floors. This very informal structure for a museum gives it an unpretentious atmosphere.

Through the transparent ceiling the whole ambient gets naturally illuminated, specially in sunny days, and makes out of the whole museum a laboratory for the ones interested in photography like me. With my music on and my camera I literally lost the notion of time in there and spent hours taking lots of pictures.

I took me a few attempts till I finally managed to visit the Museum of  plaster cast but believe me, I was truly amazed by it after I did. So amazed I came back a few days later.
I strongly recommend it, specially for those who enjoy a quiet and unique environment, whether for a coffee with a friend, some drawing study or a few photographic experiments.
In the little coffee corner upstairs in the second building one can unwind and enjoy the whole atmosphere.

IMPORTANT: The museum is opened from Mon. - Fri. between 10am and 8pm. Not during the weekend since it is an instance of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.
For the very same reason NO entrance fee is charged ( It's true!). A donation by leaving the facility is most welcome though. Once being there everyone will realise where to do it.
